What is the threshold for proving professional liability? (Tom Shroyer discusses with "Reel Lawyers")

In almost all cases involving an accountant that I’ve worked on or I’m aware of, the litmus test for the ability of the claimant or his or her lawyer to prove up a claim is that they need to have expert witness testimony from another CPA stating that what happened was a violation of the professional standard of care. Absent that, it is virtually impossible to prove liability against a CPA for malpractice.
